Do not decide from the word “marshmallow.” Check the ingredient list for gelatin and its source. A recognized halal certificate, disclosed fish gelatin, or a suitable plant-based gelling system gives more useful evidence than generic gelatin.
Are marshmallows halal? Some are and some are not. Traditional packaged marshmallows commonly use gelatin for their springy texture, and the front of the bag may not name the animal source.
Four versions you may find

JAKIM warns consumers that imported marshmallows may contain gelatin whose halal status is unknown and recommends checking recognized certification. Islamic Services of America accepts gelatin from fish or halal-slaughtered animals in its published guidance.
There is also an authority difference
Egypt’s Dar Al-Ifta publishes a permissive view based on transformation during gelatin processing. Other certifiers require a suitable verified animal source. If your household follows a particular authority, use that position consistently rather than treating a search snippet as a universal ruling.
Check more than gelatin
Flavors, colors, coatings and confectioner’s glaze can create separate questions. Plant-based marshmallows may avoid gelatin but still need a complete label screen. A vegan statement helps with animal ingredients; it does not audit alcohol carriers or halal factory controls.
